Sometimes not all the items in a MaxDiff are applicable to all the respondents. Relevant items MaxDiff is an adaptive MaxDiff approach for bringing only the relevant items forward into the MaxDiff questions. Utility estimation still covers all the items and you as the researcher need to tell the utility estimation procedure how to treat missing items.
